Where are the best places to go on holiday in August?
August is a time when holiday prices are at their highest and while a lot of us with kids are forced to pay them, there are some more off-the-beaten-path destinations you can choose that can help keep costs down.
Places like Israel, Croatia and Cape Verde all boast excellent weather and loads things to do, but because they’re not the most mainstream destinations you can get more bang for your buck.
Israel
With temperatures up in the 30s in Israel throughout the month of August it's definitely a destination for those who like the heat. The warm days lend themselves well to visiting vineyards, olive groves, beaches and the Dead Sea, taking in the country's beautiful natural landscapes. Israel is, of course, a destination with a rich and tumultuous history too, so exploring Jerusalem, Jericho, the Kursi National Park and the tree-lined Kisalon River are a must.

Cape Verde
The Cape Verde islands are nestled in the waters off the west coast of Africa and as such feature amazing year-round temperatures that are ideal for beach breaks at any time. August boasts daily averages in the high 20s which allow you to really make the most of the islands' endless beaches and laid-back way of life. Sal, the most well-known island, is renowned for its white sand and warm turquoise water and there are a number of great hotels to choose from.
