The best time to visit Barbados is the northern hemisphere winter, between the months of December and early April. This is the dry season in Barbados, with temperatures in the high 20s and less than 100mm of rainfall per month. March has the lowest rainfall levels with an average of just 3mm throughout the month; a stark difference to the later winter months in the UK and Europe! These winter days are therefore perfect for relaxing on the beach and swimming in the crystalline waters under the clear, blue Barbadian skies.
Of course, with such glorious weather comes the rise in prices, with December and January being the island's peak months. Those wanting to visit for Christmas and New Year will want to book early to avoid disappointment and to bag the best deal possible.
While December to April is considered the best time to travel to Barbados, it's worth noting that even during the island's rainy season, downpours are much more likely to come in short, sharp showers than a constant drizzle like we get here in the UK. With the average monthly temperature never varying more than two degrees throughout the year (always sitting between 29-31°C), Barbados is most definitely a year-round destination. During the wet season rainfall usually comes in the afternoon, so as long as you plan to be having a massage or be in the bar by then you'll be absolutely fine.
As Barbados is a Caribbean island it does have a hurricane season to watch out for (July-November), which tends to have its peak somewhere between September and October. This usually means some stronger storms and high winds, but there can occasionally be a tropical storm too.
On the whole, no matter what time of year you visit Barbados you're likely to enjoy sunny skies, warm temperatures and alluring waters in which to take a dip!
Barbados is an island that offers luxury resorts in which to do absolutely nothing but relax, as well as having inland attractions such as botanical gardens, plantation houses and rum distilleries to explore. It therefore provides guests with the best of both worlds so they can choose how much they want to see and do while on holiday.
With a rich culture, a deep history of colonisation and independence and an abundance of natural beauty, Barbados really does have something for everyone. Whether you want to sunbathe on the sands of the Platinum Coast, discover the more rugged coves of the eastern side of the island, swim with turtles in the azure waters or dance the night away in some Caribbean Calypso clubs, Barbados has you covered.
Most of the stylish resorts in St James and St Peter offer beach-front rooms, swimming pools, decadent restaurants and on-site spas, while the more local areas boast rum punch bars, traditional fish fries and bustling, colourful markets.
You may even want to catch a game of cricket, with the Bajans loving the game almost as much as the British!
It's important to note that while you can find some great Barbados Package Holidays, it isn't, on the whole, a cheap destination. If you stick to the simple inclusions of your hotel you should be alright, but if you want to book additional tours or take taxis around the island, costs can add up.
Don't let this put you off though, just do your research to decide what things you want to see and do so that you can budget wisely for your trip and then you'll have an amazing time without any unexpected bills.
Just remember to pack the sun cream as this blissful island national is all about the beach.
