January is the perfect time to head to the islands of the Caribbean, with the beaches of Barbados and St Lucia calling your name. If palm trees and cocktails aren't what you're looking for, then you may prefer to hit the slopes, with Canada, Austria and the French Alps all begging to be explored. Whatever you’re looking for, there’s definitely a destination to travel to in January with your name on it!

European cities like Paris, Venice and Barcelona have a wide appeal for their romance, variety of things to see and do, and short flight times. So, whether you’re visiting for a Valentine’s getaway or want a few days abroad for the February half-term, there are some great European city break destinations available. You might even be lucky enough to get some snow while you're exploring for your long weekend.

For the month of March, we look east to the warmer weather of Dubai, Morocco and India. Flights to these exotic destinations are cheaper and quicker than ever, so you can easily opt for a long-weekend break if you don’t have time for a full holiday. April is a good time to travel to European beach destinations if you prefer gentle warmth for your holidays without it feeling like it's baking hot. The beaches and golf courses of the Algarve in Portugal make for ideal family holidays and Cyprus and Turkey offer destinations that balance history, culture, cuisine and beachside relaxation. May sees temperatures rising everywhere in the Northern Hemisphere, and with two bank holidays and a half-term week off, there are plenty options available for sunny city breaks and beachy holidays. Indulge yourself in fantasy and magic at Disney's numerous parks in Florida or post some Insta-perfect pictures from of the spectacular island of Santorini. Alicante in Spain is also great option for family getaways with a range of resorts to suit all groups.

Places like Tenerife and Lanzarote are popular with tourists for a reason (think: beaches, great weather, decent prices and options for everyone) and we love both destinations in equal measure. The only real problem you’ll have is choosing which one of the Canary Islands to visit first (but don’t worry we can help with that too)! If you’d prefer to go long-haul, the Mayan ruins and beaches of Mexico will more than fit the bill.

July brings the warm and sunny climes to Europe with one of the most popular choices for a summer holiday being the beautiful Balearic Islands. The Balearics are made up of four main islands (plus a plethora of smaller ones) so there’s something here to take everyone’s fancy. You could party in the clubs of Ibiza, sample the delights of the delicious restaurants of Palma, Majorca or relax in the calmer and more family-friendly island of Menorca.

August is a time when holiday prices are at their highest and while a lot of us with kids are forced to pay them, there are some more off-the-beaten-path destinations you can choose that can help keep costs down. Places like Israel, Croatia and Cape Verde all boast excellent weather and loads things to do, but because they’re not the most mainstream destinations you can get more bang for your buck.

Average highs in destinations like Sharm El-Sheikh are 33 degrees, so while everyone else is back to school or work, you could be relaxing in the hot sun at a 5-star resort. Alternatively, seek out a Greek island such as Kos or Rhodes that offer all the joys of summer but without the madness of peak season crowds. September is the perfect time to make the most of decent weather and warm sea temperatures, while also getting more for your money than you would during the summer holidays.

Malta is one of our favourite holiday destinations and with 300 days of sunshine a year, it's easy to see why. If that doesn't take your fancy, perhaps a city break in Rome might be the one with mild daily temperatures making October an ideal time to explore. While the UK becomes cold and dark with winter drawing in, far-flung destinations like Australia and the islands of the Indian Ocean are still offering sunshine and serenity for that ideal winter getaway. The southern hemisphere is springing into summer so you can expect loads of sunshine while also discovering places that feel somewhat familiar. Or why not splash out on the golden beaches and warm seas of the Maldives and Seychelles?

The holiday season, Christmas or a time for feasts and festivities. Whatever you celebrate in December, there are plenty of reasons to go shopping a little further afield. Perhaps in search of Christmas markets or huge department stores, your ideal destinations for this month are New York, Berlin and Budapest.
